The Hague: Mauritshuis & Historic Center

The Hague: Mauritshuis & Historic Center

Depart Rotterdam by minibus for the drive to The Hague, traveling through residential districts and landscaped avenues en route to the Mauritshuis. Upon arrival, enter the 17th-century mansion overlooking the Hofvijver pond and gather for a welcome drink accompanied by an introduction to the museum’s collection. A guided visit follows through the intimate galleries, where Dutch Golden Age paintings are displayed in rooms that allow close, unobstructed viewing.

During the guided exploration, stand before Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, Rembrandt’s portraits, and works by Frans Hals, as your guide explains the artistic techniques, symbolism, and historical context of selected masterpieces. The museum’s scale allows direct engagement with the paintings at close range. After concluding the visit, exit the Mauritshuis and continue on foot into the historic center of The Hague.

The guided walking tour leads through the city center over approximately 5 km (3.1 miles), covering medium distances on uneven surfaces and steps. Walk past historic facades, civic buildings, and royal landmarks as your guide outlines their architectural features and civic significance. The route includes key government and royal sites that define The Hague’s role within the Netherlands before returning to the coach for the drive back to Rotterdam.

Notes: This tour is not wheelchair accessible and is not suitable for guests with limited mobility. It involves moderate activity requiring intermittent effort throughout, including walking medium distances over uneven surfaces and/or steps, and guests should be physically fit to participate in a walking tour.
