Discover the rural landscapes of Texel on a guided scenic drive through the island’s historic Oude Land. Departing the port by minibus, travel past open fields, traditional farmhouses, and wide horizons shaped by centuries of agricultural life. Your guide provides insight into Texel’s farming traditions as you journey across the countryside, observing the flat polder landscape and grazing sheep that define the island’s character. This introductory drive offers a clear sense of Texel’s scale and rural identity before arriving at a working sheep farm.
At De Waddel Sheep Farm, meet farmer Jan Willem and learn about his family’s 400-year connection to the land. During the visit, he explains daily farm operations and the role sheep farming continues to play on the island. Guests are invited to sample homemade sheep and cow’s cheeses along with other local products, served with coffee, tea, or water. The tasting is hosted on site and offers a direct introduction to regional dairy production and traditional methods.
Following the farm visit, continue by coach for the second part of the scenic tour across Texel. The route provides additional views of farmland, dikes, and rural villages before returning to the port. This three-hour experience combines a guided countryside drive with a personal farm visit and local tasting, offering a structured introduction to Texel’s agricultural heritage and everyday island life.
Notes: Comfortable shoes are recommended. The sheep farm is a working agricultural property, and ground surfaces may include gravel, compacted earth, and farmyard areas that can be uneven or muddy after rain.
