Pembroke Castle & Tenby

Pembroke Castle & Tenby

Departing Fishguard, travel by coach across the rolling countryside of Pembrokeshire to Pembroke Castle, set prominently on a limestone hill above the town. Built in the 12th century by the Normans, the fortress is defined by massive curtain walls, five projecting round towers, and a great keep rising twenty-one meters high with walls six meters thick at the base. During your guided visit, explore the inner ward and principal structures while learning how the castle withstood cannon fire during the Civil War and served as the birthplace of Henry Tudor, later Henry VII.

From Pembroke, continue by coach to the coastal town of Tenby. Enclosed by largely intact medieval walls, Tenby retains its historic street pattern, with narrow lanes and small squares that reflect its past as a fortified harbor settlement. Upon arrival, you may join an orientation walk introducing the town’s defensive walls and harbor setting, followed by time at leisure. Use this opportunity to explore independently, browse local shops, or stroll along the harbor before rejoining the coach for the return journey to Fishguard.

Notes: The drive from and to Fishguard is approximately 1 hour each way. This tour involves mixed terrain with steps and may present limitations for guests with walking difficulties.
