Mourne Mountains Hike and Mrs. C’s Home Kitchen
Mourne Mountains Hike and Mrs. C’s Home Kitchen
Departing from Warrenpoint, guests travel by motorcoach to meet a private walking guide before beginning a guided hike in the Mourne Mountains. The walk is led by local expert Robbie Marsh, who provides detailed commentary on the landscape, including its geology, history, and local legends. The route leads through open mountain terrain toward the Mourne Wall, a historic dry-stone structure extending across the landscape. Elevated viewpoints along the way offer clear sightlines across the surrounding peaks and toward the coastline.
The guided walk continues across varied terrain as the route approaches and reaches sections of the Mourne Wall, allowing guests to observe its construction and placement within the landscape. Throughout the hike, Robbie shares further insights into notable features of the area, including surrounding peaks and natural landmarks. Following the walking portion, guests rejoin the motorcoach and transfer to Mrs. C’s Home Kitchen, transitioning from the mountain setting to an indoor environment for the next stage of the experience.
At Mrs. C’s Home Kitchen, the experience continues with a cooking demonstration focused on traditional baking techniques using locally sourced ingredients. Guests observe the preparation process before sitting down to a light seasonal lunch, followed by sweet treats. Hot and cold drinks are served alongside the meal, with the menu dependent on seasonal availability. After lunch, guests board the motorcoach, ascending via three steps, for the return journey to Warrenpoint, where the tour concludes at the pier.
Notes: This tour involves strenuous activity and requires participants to be physically fit. Mountain trails may include uneven, rocky, and natural surfaces, with ground conditions that can be wet, soft, or slippery, particularly after rainfall. Sections near the Mourne Wall may involve gradual inclines and exposed terrain, and the overall environment requires careful footing throughout the hike. The Mourne Mountains are a natural setting with no shelter along most walking routes. Comfortable, waterproof, and warm clothing is recommended. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or wheelchair users.
