Turquoise Coast Surprises

Turquoise Coast Surprises

Our afternoon tour begins with a scenic drive to Kekova. This small village is home to the partly sunken ruins of the Lycian city of Aperlae and a hill-top castle and is one of the most interesting areas on the Turquoise Coast. After a short ride with a local boat we arrive at Kalekoy. Her you find one of the classic images of this part of Turkey; a Lycian pedestal sarcophagus standing in the ocean just off the village. An essential photo stop. Those who wish to visit the Castle will have the chance to do so by walking up the hill between the small village houses. From the Castle there is a spectacular view of the bay. Refreshments will be offered in one of the waterfront restaurants where local gulets and yachts are tied up. Back on the boat, a short ride takes us to the sunken ruins of the ancient cities. Depending on weather conditions the boat will take us to the sunken ruins of Dolchiste/Dolikisthe, an ancient town and Tersane. (meaning "dockyard", as its bay was the site of an ancient city Xera and dockyard, with the ruins of a Byzantine church. At the end of the visit we return to Kekova for the drive back to Demre Port to meet the tender to the yacht
