Your land adventure will begin with a panoramic view of the Caribbean coast from El Vigia Hill, towering several hundred feet over the city of Ponce at the point where the central Cordillera starts to rise " it was from here that early residents scanned the horizon for pirates. Immediately below this look-out point is Serralles Castle, the baronial estate of Puerto Rico's most powerful rum producing families, who produce Don Q Rum. You will actually tour this "castle" which is a magnificent example of Spanish Revival architecture popular in the 1920's and includes furnishings that date back to medieval Spain mixed in with what were then the "modern" appliances of the early 20th century. You finish this segment of the adventure actually feeling that you have met the members of the Serralles dynasty.

Next you will head to the city's center that has been lovingly restored to its original turn of the century splendor and features a spacious tree-lined plaza, which encompasses the Cathedral and fanciful red and black Parque de Bombas (firehouse), which was imported from a world's fair. Horse drawn carriages are usually found at the square as well. Time will then be allowed for lunch at one of the restaurants located near the plaza. Lunch is not included in the rate.

Following your independent lunch, you will go directly to Hacienda Buena Vista, located in the rolling hills (coffee country) between Utuado and Ponce; The Hacienda is a coffee plantation built in the 19th century by Salvador de Vives, who was also mayor of Ponce. Superbly restored by the island Conservation Trust, your land adventure is conducted by the Trust's interpreter/guides and you will see a two-story estate house, mills that actually operate and a 60-foot waterslide.
