Depart the SeaDream pier for the approximate one-hour drive to Teror, considered by many to be the loveliest place on Gran Canaria. Teror features red-tiled, whitewashed houses with graceful patios and traditional carved balconies. Upon arrival, visit the Basilica of the Lady of the Pine, the patron saint of the island. Located on the main plaza, the church you see today is the third to be built on the same spot since the 15th century. Outside, ten gargoyles stand guard on the sides of the church; inside, the main features are the vast Baroque altar and the richly clothed, wooden carved figure of the Virgin Mary. According to legend, in 1481, a vision of the Virgin appeared in a pine tree to local shepherds. Since that time, the Basilica has played a very important role to the community. In 1914, Pope Pius XII proclaimed her patron saint of the island, and the small town of Teror became the religious capital of the island. After some free time at your leisure you and your fellow SeaDreamers re-board your coach for the drive to Arucas. The idyllic setting of Arucas is created by the dazzling brightness of its white houses, which stand in sharp contrast with the dark profile of its turreted church. Arucas is home to numerous landscaped parks and gardens, though undoubtedly the one most worth seeing is Marquesa´s Garden. During your visit here, some free time is made available to relax, sip a refreshing beverage and admire the extensive collection of Canarian and tropical plants.
