Longyearbyen, Norway

The world's northernmost town with a supermarket, a church and a pub still requires a rifle if you leave the settlement on foot, polar bears roam freely across Svalbard's tundra. Its permafrost is so complete that burial is not permitted, one of the more startling facts you'll pick up at the excellent Svalbard Museum, while the Global Seed Vault sits carved into a mountainside just outside town, a doomsday backup for the world's crops. Former mining infrastructure still threads the hillsides above a settlement now built as much around Arctic research as coal. As far north as ordinary life gets.

I hate Commercial Cruises. So I reluctantly signed up for a SeaDream, and after a week on the boat, I could not think of one thing that was not done to perfection. The food was great, the staff was spectacular, and having only 50 couples made this a private yacht cruise. I have signed up for my second cruise, and probably will only Yacht with SeaDream in my future. Pat M.Florida
This was the best small ship cruise we have undertaken and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We would certainly recommend Seadream and intend [to] return in the future. Mr. & Mrs. CowieEngland
