  • Little Bay - Pompeii of the Caribbean

    Description

See the “active” Soufriere Hills Volcano on Montserrat from Plymouth port and learn why it may be called the Pompeii of the Caribbean. No visitor to Montserrat should leave without having an encounter with Montserrat’s most captivating phenomena.

On July 18, 1995, the volcano, dormant for four centuries, spewed 20 feet of ash over the southern coast. A series of eruptions eventually caused fast-moving cascades of hot gas and rock that buried the once thriving city of Plymouth. Life, as it was, for Montserrat’s 12,000 residents changed forever.

On this excursion you will travel to Jack Boy Hill where you can see the volcano and remnants of WH Bramble Airport now completely buried by volcanic lava flows. Then its on to a lookout point over Plymouth, which is located in what's called the Exclusion Zone, or Zone V; because this area sits in the path of the greatest current volcanic activity and there is limited public access.

As you make the way to Plymouth you will pass through small villages and stop in Woodlands for a brief moment at Runaway Ghuat. This is a natural Spring that local myth claims you must drink from this Spring if you want to return to Montserrat. Before entering Plymouth you will have a brief “bird’s eye” view stop at Montserrat Springs; a once proud 4-star hotel. In Plymouth, Safety Officer Norman will show you pictures of former life in Plymouth as you walk past and on top of the buried buildings.Be sure to bring your camera to record this live volcano experience and how the community was buried just like Pompeii.

  • Sandy Ground - Speed Boat Beach Hopping & Snorkeling

    Description

Board a private speed boat and set off to your first snorkel spot at Little Bay, the tiniest beach on Anguilla and one of the most beautiful locations to snorkel. It is also one of the most private beaches on Anguilla, since the only way to get there is by foot or by water. Since it is protected by high cliffs on three sides there is hardly any surf, making it a perfect snorkel stop. Snorkeling in these crystal-clear warm waters will be a rewarding experience with plenty of colorful fish, squids and shells. In general, Anguilla is well known for its snorkeling and has an abundance of fish; you can find the feisty little black-barred Sergeant Major and plenty of colorful Wrasses, Snappers and Grunts. Then on to the second snorkel stop, which is at Shoal Bay, where you will find a reef abundant with coral and sea fans, along with Parrot Fish, Blue Tang and even Trunk Fish, the ones that look like little triangular boxes. After this, the third stop will be Sandy Island also well known for its excellent snorkeling. After this last snorkel experience, you will board the speed boat to return to the pier in Road Bay while enjoying a well-deserved rum punch.

    Notes

Guests must be able to swim and feel comfortable with snorkeling equipment. In addition, the boat captain will use his discretion when selecting the stops and snorkeling locations based upon the current weather and sea conditions for the best guest experience.
