Douarnenez - A Tale of Two Sardines
Douarnenez - A Tale of Two Sardines
Follow the story of the Pen Sardins (the Sardine Heads) through the small streets of Douarnenez and feel the link of a town with the sea…
Disembark from your yacht and immerse yourself in the charm of Douarnenez, once a thriving center of fish-canning in the 19th century. The town's heartbeat was the sardine industry, with men braving the seas to catch these silvery fish and women expertly preparing them in the factories when they returned home. Today, sardines remain a cornerstone of Douarnenez's heritage, still fished from June to September. Wander through the picturesque "venelles" alleyways with your private guide to discover the essence of Douarnenez.
Your tour includes a visit of the Port Maritime Museum, where you'll meet the owner for a private tour. Your guide will assist with translations as needed. This renowned maritime museum showcases eight fishing vessels, including a sandship, steam tug, and galleass. Step aboard four of these vessels to gain insights into the lives of the seamen and the differences between the ship types.
Following this enriching museum experience, your guides will lead you to a historic local cannery for a tour and tasting of their local delicacies. Conclude your visit with a leisurely stroll back to your SeaDream yacht or remain and explore more of the town at your own pace.
