Hike in Herm
Hike in Herm
Your guide meets you at the pier in St. Peter Port and leads a short walk along the quayside to the ferry departure point. During this walk, you will receive an introduction to Guernsey and its harbor before boarding the catamaran ferry. The covered ferry carries you across the waters to the nearby island of Herm. During the crossing, your guide provides orientation to Herm and the surrounding Channel Islands while distributing a walking map for reference. After arrival at Herm Harbour, you disembark and begin your exploration of this small, traffic-free island on foot.
The guided walk leads inland from the harbor along sandy paths and common ground as your guide introduces the character and geography of Herm. Passing through the island’s central landscapes, the route continues toward coastal viewpoints overlooking Belvoir Bay before descending toward the shoreline near Shell Beach. Here you pause for a tasting experience hosted by Herm & Guernsey Oysters, where two oysters per guest are served. Lunch follows at the Shell Beach café veranda, featuring a crab and prawn sandwich accompanied by one beverage, with options including wine, beer, soft drink, tea, or coffee.
After lunch, the walk continues across the northern common of Herm, where open landscapes and sandy tracks frame views of the island’s coastline. The route leads toward Herm Village, where there is time to browse the small souvenir shops or send a postcard before returning to the harbor. Your guide accompanies you to the ferry for the return crossing to Guernsey. After disembarking at St. Peter Port, a final short walk along the quayside brings you back to the Yacht, concluding the excursion.
Notes: This tour involves extensive activity. Guests walk from the tender disembarkation point along the quayside to the ferry departure point and return the same way at the end of the tour. The total walking distance during the experience is approximately 5 km (3.1 miles). Walking takes place over tarmac, sand, and common ground, and exploration of Herm Island is conducted entirely on foot, as the island is traffic-free. Some steps are involved during ferry boarding and disembarkation. Walking routes may include sandy or grassy sections, including areas near beaches such as Shell Beach. Guests are advised to wear sturdy closed-toe shoes and bring a windproof or waterproof jacket. The tour is not wheelchair accessible and not suitable for guests with limited mobility. Ferry crossings between Guernsey and Herm take place across open sea channels, and sea conditions may occasionally result in a slightly uneven ride.
