Kythnos Hiking & Ancient Vryokastro

Guests begin at Apokrousis Beach and follow the Diasella coastal path toward Vryokastro, the ancient city of Kythnos and one of the island’s most important archaeological sites. The route introduces the island’s coastal landscape as the group walks through open terrain toward an area where excavations continue to reveal traces of the city’s long history. Along the way, the guide leads guests toward the entrance of the archaeological site, setting the context for a visit focused on ancient remains, temples, and discoveries dating back more than 2,500 years.

At Vryokastro, guests explore the active excavation area with their guide, viewing the remains of ancient temples and learning about the significance of the site in Kythnos’ history. The visit offers a close look at one of the island’s key archaeological areas, where ongoing work continues to uncover evidence of the ancient city. After the guided exploration, the group returns on foot along the same route to Apokrousis Beach. This tour involves a moderate level of activity, and hiking shoes are recommended.

Closed-toe walking or hiking shoes are strongly recommended, as archaeological and coastal paths may include uneven ground. Sun exposure can be strong, especially from late spring through early autumn, and guests are advised to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and water.
