France’s Atlantic shore between Pointe de Grave, at the mouth of the Gironde River, and Biarritz, at the foot of the Pyrenées, is known as Côte d’Argent. The river narrows near Bordeaux, center to one of the world’s most celebrated wine-producing regions. More than 10,000 vineyards dot the countryside, providing most of the Epicurean nation’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sémillon, Savignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes. Bordeaux reveals itself through taste and texture, historic stone façades, vine-covered hills, and the simple pleasure of lingering over a perfectly chosen glass. With hundreds of historical buildings and monuments, dozens of art galleries and museums, and distinctive French cuisine, Bordeaux is simply unmissable.
Nestled off the coast of Brittany in the Bay of Biskay, Belle Île (meaning “beautiful island”) is defined by its rugged coastline dotted with fissured cliffs, natural harbors, and sandy beaches. Explore the island by foot or bike, itself a nature preserve rich in shifting sand dunes, heathered moors, and protected orchids. The 16th-century Vaubun Citadel, the church of Locmaria, and the lighthouse of Gouphar are defining landmarks on this tiny island, perhaps no less approachable than the village charm of cobbled streets, outdoor markets, and delightful cafés.
This beautiful coastal town with a handful of harbors is located at the mouth of the Pouldavid River, an estuary on the southern shore of Douarnenez Bay. The opportune location allows easy access to the area’s untouched beaches, perfect for strolling and lounging. Experience the quaint atmosphere of Douarnenez’s lively quaysides and narrow streets dotted with craft workshops, fishermen’s cottages, and patisseries.
Boasting an immensely picturesque coastline, the Channel Island of Guernsey has long attracted artists such as Auguste Renoir to its welcoming shores. In the capital of St. Peter Port, wander through commanding Castle Cornet, a 13th-century marvel of military engineering that sits on a rocky headland jutting out at sea. Admire some of the earliest heated glass houses at the Candie Gardens, whose elegantly landscaped grounds are laid out with Victorian thoughtfulness and contemplate Victor Hugo’s not entirely uncomfortable exile at Hauteville House, the splendid manor where he wrote Les Miserables.
Hop on a bicycle to explore the picturesque hills and dales of the island, perhaps riding past a herd of the island’s famed namesake cows, and revitalize at an authentic tea house, where age-old traditions are carefully observed. For that perfect keepsake, shop along cobbled streets overflowing with charm, maybe pausing at a fresh-caught seafood restaurant for a taste of the island’s famed crab. No matter how you choose to spend your time, the leisurely pace of life in delightful Guernsey will replenish your spirit.
One of the Channel Islands, the beautiful, steep island of Sark rises from the sea, outshined only by its scenic coastline. Three intimate harbors—Creux, La Maseline, and Havre Gosselin—allow for anchorage and easy access to its sheltered beaches. Sark is one of the few remaining islands where cars are banned and only bicycles and horse-drawn vehicles are permitted on its roads.
At approximately 20 miles wide at its narrowest point, the Strait of Dover is the slimmest section of the English Channel. As you pass through the strait, on a clear day the White Cliffs of Dover and the landscape of Calais, France come into view.
One of the world’s major seaports sitting pretty on the Scheldt River, Antwerp gained fame as the center of the diamond industry as well as its longstanding history for celebrating the fine arts. Its celebration of art and design can be seen in almost every corner of the city, including its museums, art galleries, and architecture. Because Antwerp is home to over 150 different nationalities, making it ethnically rich, it is home to incredible Napalese, Moroccan and Arabic cuisine. Of course, chocolate, coffee, and frites (fries, served up in your favorite frituur) are staples in this lovely, strollable city.
A dynamic mix of history and maritime culture, with a modern look and feel, the Netherlands’ city of Rotterdam is particularly impressive for its beautiful harbor, bold post-World War II architecture, and thriving art scene bursting with galleries and museums. Texel Island is located in the West Frisian Islands region of the Netherlands. As part of the remote Dutch Wadden island group that divides the North Sea from the shallow waters of the Wadden Sea, Texel is small and secluded, approximately twenty-five miles long and seven miles wide. Almost one-third of the island is allocated to nature reserves boasting deciduous and pine forest, heath, mudflats, and salt marshes. With miles of coastline, Texel’s beaches are beautifully widespread, serene, and perfect for a long walk. The highest point of the island is the dune, sitting in the Dunes of Texel National Park, providing an important respite for seals, sheep, terns and ducks, and Scottish Highlanders, best explored by bike.
Thrill to one of the world’s most unique sailing experiences, a transit of the storied Kiel Canal. The idea for a waterway connecting the Baltic and North Seas was conceived by Chancellor Otto von Bismarck during the Danish-German War of 1864, as the Germans were keen to avoid Danish hostility while sailing around the Jutland Peninsula. The ambitious project, however, didn’t come to fruition until 1895 under the auspices of Wilhelm II, albeit right on budget. These days, the canal’s purpose is primarily mercantile.
While transiting, look out over a famously flat landscape of well-tended fields, dense forests and quaint villages, and pass under a succession of steel overpasses, including the fascinating Rendsburg High Bridge, both a railway viaduct and a transporter bridge. When you emerge into the open sea, you’ll have the satisfaction of having undertaken a remarkable transit only available to smaller vessels.
There’s much to treasure in glorious Copenhagen, one of Europe’s most beautiful capital cities. No visit is complete without indulging your inner child at the Tivoli Gardens, a fantastical amusement park and pleasure garden that melds the atmosphere of 19th-century Europe with recreations of Far East architecture, all amid wonderfully manicured grounds. After paying your respects to the city’s iconic statue of Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid, shop to your heart’s content on Strøget, an elegant lane flanked by sophisticated boutiques housed in graceful buildings.
Although its exterior is handsomely austere, the interior rooms of the 18th-century Christiansborg Palace are sure to dazzle you with their extravagant stucco ceilings, brilliant chandeliers and gilded furniture. Fast forward to the 19th century at the spectacular Copenhagen Botanical Garden, where innumerable plant species are showcased in absolutely stunning historical glasshouses. Should you have the stomach for it, take in the entire city from the tower of the Church of our Saviour, which must be reached via vertiginous exterior spiral staircase. No matter how you’ve spent your day, a terrific place to wind down is the quayside Nyhavn district, where colorful historic buildings host an eclectic choice of cafés, bars and restaurants.
The town of Lysekil sits on Sweden’s Bohuslän Coast, where the mouth of Gullmarsfjorden faces the open sea. The Stångehuvuds Nature Reserve, affording incredible sea views from its red granite cliffs, are joined by a white lighthouse. In the Old Town, cobblestone streets and café-lined alleyways reveal perfectly manicured houses, several of which bear plaques telling the story of their history. Towering above Lysekil’s skyline, Lysekil Church was built entirely from granite and completed in 1901, in part as a navigation marker for seafarers.
Norway is a land steeped in myth, where irascible gods armed with frost and lightning once inspired Viking clans to plunder foreign lands. These days, genteel customs imported from mainland Europe have softened the country’s hard edges, but traces of an unruly past still abound. The exceptional museums dotting the Bygdøy Peninsula hold some of the city’s foremost attractions, including a thousand-year-old longship that was preserved in mud and the 12th-century Gol Stave Church, an exemplar of Norway’s distinctive wood sanctuaries. No less fascinating is a visit to the 1892 Fram, a legendary ship revered for her vital role in early polar explorations.
To witness the evolution of Oslo’s soul, contrast battle-hardened Akershus Fortress, a ruggedly elegant citadel wrapped in nearly impregnable ramparts, with the neoclassical Royal Palace, whose formal exterior encloses sumptuously appointed rooms. You might wish to view Edvard Munch’s iconic The Scream, which hangs in the outstanding Norwegian National Gallery amid priceless European and Scandinavian masterworks. In expansive Frogner Park, wander among Gustav Vigeland’s thought-provoking sculptures, and if you’ve worked up an appetite, choose among the many restaurants and cafés lining the charming waterfront district of Aker Brygge.

Depart the harbor by minibus accompanied by a specialist guide and travel westward to Fort Hommet, a coastal stronghold that illustrates Guernsey’s strategic role during the Second World War. Here, guests visit the M-19 automatic mortar bunker and the adjoining personnel shelter, part of the German defensive network constructed during the occupation of the Channel Islands. The guide explains how these reinforced positions were designed to control approaches along the coast. From the fortifications, the surrounding shoreline and defensive landscape provide a clear impression of how the island’s natural geography was incorporated into military planning.
Continuing along the island’s west coast, the drive offers changing views of Guernsey’s beaches and rocky headlands. A comfort stop is made at Portelet, where guests may purchase refreshments such as a crab sandwich or locally made ice cream while overlooking the bay. The tour then proceeds to Pleinmont Point to visit Batterie Dollman, one of the island’s coastal artillery positions. From this exposed headland, guests see sweeping views across the sea toward the Hanois Lighthouse, an isolated granite tower standing on offshore rocks that once marked an important navigational point.

The journey concludes at La Seigneurie Gardens, located within the grounds of the historic residence of the Seigneur of Sark. Here you will see the formal gardens, including the rose garden bordered by box hedging and the Millennium Rose Garden created in 2000. Guests begin with a short walk from the yacht to the pontoon, where they board the vessel and settle in for an evening cruise through Rotterdam’s canals and harbor. Once underway, the route follows the city’s waterways, providing uninterrupted views of Rotterdam’s modern skyline and port infrastructure. A guide accompanies the journey, offering commentary as the vessel moves through different sections of the harbor, while guests remain on board with access to onboard facilities.
The experience takes place aboard a 28-meter steel yacht originally built as a fishing trawler and later transformed into a boutique vessel, retaining elements of its maritime heritage. The interiors are arranged across multiple levels, each designed with distinct character, featuring 1970s design pieces, curated artworks, and softly contoured furnishings that create a setting comparable to a boutique hotel environment. Guests may move between interior lounge areas and outdoor decks, including a shaded deck and an upper panorama deck offering open views across the city.
During the cruise, guests are served two drinks while continuing along the waterways, with time to sit in the main lounge, step outside onto the deck, or visit the bar area integrated within the vessel. The layout includes dedicated lounge spaces and a bar, allowing for a continuous onboard experience without intermediate stops. At the conclusion of the cruise, the vessel returns to the pontoon, and guests disembark for a short walk back to the yacht, completing the tour.

Depart Rotterdam by coach and travel through the outskirts of the city into the Dutch polder landscape, where straight canals divide flat farmland reclaimed from the sea. After approximately 45 minutes, arrive at Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its historic water management system. Walk along the paved dikes to the windmill complex, where nineteen original windmills dating from 1740 stand in aligned formation along the waterways designed to control flooding in this low-lying region.
Board a covered canal boat for a cruise through the network of canals, passing directly alongside the windmills to observe their wooden sails, brick towers, and pumping mechanisms from the water level. Following the cruise, enter one of the preserved windmills to see the compact living quarters of the miller’s family and examine the gears and shafts that powered the drainage system. Steep interior steps lead to the upper levels, offering a close view of the machinery still in place.
After the guided visit, reboard the canal boat for the return transfer to the entrance area. After disembarking, enjoy free time to walk independently along the paths, photograph the windmills reflected in the canals, or explore the surrounding embankments before returning to Rotterdam, completing a four-hour experience that combines coach travel, an interior windmill visit, and time to explore this historic landscape.

Walking takes place on cobblestoned streets and uneven brick paths, which may become slippery in wet conditions. Comfortable walking shoes are strongly recommended. Embark on a three hour walking exploration through Copenhagen to uncover the deep and multifaceted connections between Greenland and Denmark. Along the harbor, imagine the era when ships bound for Greenland departed loaded with whale oil, seal skins, scientific instruments, and later modern goods. For generations, Greenlanders arrived here, some briefly, others settling permanently, beginning lives shaped by two cultures. As we follow the waterfront, we pause at The Little Mermaid for photographs before continuing toward monuments that reflect Denmark’s long and complex relationship with the Arctic.
Our route leads to the 1939 Polar Bear Statue, marking the historic departure point for Greenland bound ships and bearing scars from the Nazi invasion. Nearby stands the Mylius Erichsen Memorial, honoring the explorer who mapped northeast Greenland and helped shape Danish Arctic identity. From here, we continue into Christianshavn, a district where many Greenlanders lived from the 1800s through the mid 20th century. Sailors, students, and young Greenlanders navigating new opportunities once filled its boarding houses and narrow canalside streets.
In Christianshavn, we explore how this neighborhood became a cultural hub for Greenlanders from the 1960s to the 1980s, a place to gather, shop, and stay connected while far from home. At Christianshavn Square, we reflect at the Greenland Monument on identity, autonomy, and life between two worlds. The tour concludes at Amalienborg Palace, home to the Danish Royal Family, before you enjoy a pleasant walk back to the yacht. With Greenland’s 2009 self-government, the relationship has evolved into one of partnership, shaped by collaboration in climate research, diplomacy, fisheries, and Arctic affairs.

Copenhagen is a city of castles and fairy tales, and on this Yachting Land Adventures you will experience some of its most enchanting highlights. Begin your day by meeting your local guide at the pier before boarding a comfortable coach for a grand tour of Denmark’s capital.
Your first stop is Rosenborg Castle, a magnificent Renaissance landmark set in the heart of the city. Built between 1606 and 1607 by King Christian IV in the Dutch Renaissance style, Rosenborg was originally intended as a summer retreat but went on to serve as a royal residence for nearly a century. Since 1838, the castle has been a museum, showcasing an extraordinary collection of royal artifacts from the reigns of Christian IV through Frederik VII. In the basement, you’ll find the Royal Treasury, home to countless treasures, including the dazzling Danish crown jewels and regalia adorned with gold, diamonds, and precious stones. Your guided tour will lead you through three floors and nearly 300 years of Danish history.
The tour continues with a visit to the iconic Tivoli Gardens, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks, having opened on August 15, 1843. Tivoli has enchanted visitors since its earliest days with exotic architecture inspired by a fantastical Orient, vibrant flower gardens, theatres, bandstands, cafés, and early mechanical rides such as a merry-go-round and a primitive roller coaster. Among its many notable guests was Hans Christian Andersen himself, and today the park features a building named after him: the H.C. Andersen Castle, now used for events and meetings.
Your first stop inside Tivoli is the historic restaurant Grøften, a beloved Copenhagen institution that has operated for around 150 years. Here, you will enjoy a tasting of traditional Danish dishes before having free time to stroll the gardens, admire the elaborate floral displays, or simply soak up the magical atmosphere of this charming place.
Afterward, rejoin your local guide for the return drive to the yacht.
Notes
This tour is not wheelchair accessible. Rosenborg Castle features approximately 50 steps, narrow wooden staircases, and uneven floors. Surfaces in Tivoli Gardens may include gravel, cobblestones, and other uneven paths. Comfortable walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing are recommended. Please note that bags are not permitted inside Christiansborg Palace except for very small handbags. Phone calls are not allowed inside the castle. Photography is permitted, though tripods and poles are not. Major credit cards are widely accepted; cash purchases require Danish Kroner (DKK). The tour sequence may vary. An inside visit to Christiansborg cannot be accommodated if the Queen is using the palace. Rides in Tivoli Gardens are not included but may be purchased independently during your free time. A minimum number of participants is required for all Yachting Land Adventures, and some may have limited capacity. All SeaDream Yachting Land Adventures are subject to change. Final departure times will be provided on board.
Venture into the rolling countryside and follow the breathtaking coastal road as you explore three of the most beautiful castles in Northern Zealand. Your first stop is Hillerød, home to the magnificent fairy-tale Frederiksborg Castle, an extraordinary example of Danish Renaissance architecture. Built in the 17th century, Frederiksborg now houses the Museum of National History, where you can admire historic portraits and paintings. Don’t miss the castle’s stunning chapel, home to the world’s oldest functioning organ, the 1610 Compenius Organ.
Your journey continues to Fredensborg Palace, one of the royal family’s favorite residences, especially held dear by Queen Margrethe. Built in the Baroque style, Fredensborg is often the setting for state visits and significant royal family events, such as the wedding of the King of Denmark, Frederik X, to Queen Mary. After a brief photo stop, the tour proceeds to a charming local inn for a traditional Danish lunch plate. This historic roadside inn, founded by royal grant from King Christian VI in 1740, serves classic Danish dishes in a cozy 18th-century atmosphere. Its motto: “Eat not to live, but live to eat.”
Next, you’ll visit one of Denmark’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Kronborg Castle. From its ramparts, enjoy sweeping views across the Sound and discover the castle’s famous connection to Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Lavishly decorated and enriched by centuries of maritime tolls from passing ships, Kronborg offers much to explore. Enjoy a guided tour of the chapel, courtyard, and grand banquet hall before returning to your coach for the journey back to your yacht in Copenhagen.
Notes
Due to the terrain and number of stairs, this tour is not suitable for guests with wheelchairs or walking difficulties. The drive to Frederiksborg Castle is approximately one hour. Frederiksborg and Kronborg Castles require extensive walking on uneven cobblestones, gravel, wooden floors, and historic surfaces, as well as navigating multiple staircases (approximately 100 steps at each castle). Kronborg also involves a 600 meter walk between the coach and the entrance. Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes and weather appropriate clothing are strongly recommended, as some areas may be cool or drafty. Gift shops at both castles accept major credit cards and Danish Kroner (DKK) only.
